2400 Year Old Mask is Found
Jul 16th, 2007 by Alex
Playing in the mud like pigs is hard to avoid for Talbot, because that’s his job. He was an archaeologist. Talbot loved his job, because everyday was an adventure digging and searching for treasure. When he was little, he would dig in his little sandbox finding Lego pieces and loose change. Fast forward thirty years and he’s digging at an excavation site in Bulgaria hoping to find rare artifacts. The site was a tomb for a famous ruler, so everyone’s hopes were up.
The sun was blistering and beating down at them as they dug with shovels. They didn’t want to risk breaking anything. Progress was slow, and the job was very tedious. Shifting through every single piece of dirt and overturning every stone was giving Talbot cramps. It was the third day into the operation, and not one shred of treasure turned up. Sweat was dripping down Talbot as he painstakingly dug with his partners. He was weaving through the dirt when he heard a clink.
“Guys I think I got something.†Talbot said while unraveling the metal object.
“It’s a mask!†John, the operation manager, said holding up the object.
Talbot stood smiling admiring his find while wiping his sweat and dirt off his face.
“This tomb really did belong to a king. Come on guys less talking more digging!â€
The whole operation took over two weeks to completely excavate. It was well worth it though. The mask turned out to be over two thousand years old and along with it, the team found a solid gold ring, portraits of the king, and a Greek inscription. As Talbot always said ‘Leave it up to archaeologists to find your personal belongings when you die.’
