Archaeologists Go Missing After Finding Tomb
Aug 3rd, 2007 by Alex
MEXICO CITY- Several archaeologists have gone missing when they found a tomb of an Aztec ruler. When the tomb was fully excavated, suddenly the tomb’s walls collapsed onto the team of archaeologists. In total, there were ten people in the team. Authorities are still searching through the rubble for any signs of life fearing for the worst. There is no logical explanation to why a cave would suddenly give in. History shows that Aztec priests protected rulers’ tombs with curses to prevent anyone from digging them up. Was this done by the curse or is there a scientific explanation?
“People nowadays are always looking for proof or logic,†Azuelea Guadalupe, one of the project supervisors for the excavation, told reporters. “I was one of the few people that were actually there when it happened. There were no earthquakes or anything; the cave just gave out suddenly. No doubt it was the curse.â€
A lot of superstitions have been disproved by science, but locals are going crazy after this incident.
“It’s the return of el Diablo!†A boy yelled into the streets.
Scientists are looking into the matter for possible explanations. An earthquake is the most likely one.
“When people envision earthquakes, they always think of buildings and bridges collapsing. They don’t realize small earthquakes that are barely noticeable happen all the time.†Dan Blogs, a seismologist, commented on the event.
Family and friends are the still mourning. The death toll is still unclear, and rescue teams are currently excavating to make sure no more people join the tomb of the Aztec ruler.
