First Major Snow in Buenos Aires Since 1918
Jul 9th, 2007 by Alex

Julia would have believed that frogs or money was falling out of the sky more than it snow was coming out of the sky. Never in her fifteen years of life had she touched or seen snow before. It was cold Independence Holiday for all of Argentina. Everybody was outside celebrating, singing, and dancing despite the chilly weather. In the middle of the festivities, out of nowhere snow started falling from the sky.
Julia was at first confused at the white substance. She only heard of snow from novels and her cousin living in America. After a few minutes, it finally hit home to her that it was snowing. Everybody was just stunned in disbelief, when finally a young kid threw a snowball at his sister. After that, everyone joined in making snowmen, sticking out their tongue, and throwing snowballs. The snow was like chocolate to them making everyone’s inner child come out.
Julia touched the snow, and it stung her hand. She heard that snow was cold, but notthat cold. She was used to 90 degree weather and could barely pack the snow together without wincing in pain. Her younger brother was just stepping out to experience the phenomenon when SPLAT! Julia nailed him right in the head.
“It burns! Get off me!†Joshua was over reacting as usual.
Even though it did sort of sting her hands, Julia liked the snow. She got her brother to make a snowman and a fortress with her. The fun ended though, when the snow stopped falling, and they could only helplessly watch as their creations melted away until there were only two puddles of water.
Their mom already made them hot cocoa and switched on the television. The weatherman said that this was the first snow since 1918. People were so happy that they were kissing on the streets. Now that was one special holiday.
