Fisherman Catches Ancient Fish
Jul 15th, 2007 by Alex

The skies were darkening as Ashbar was fishing in his boat in the Tanzania River. The river was basically his life. Without it, he would not be able to have money or food. He had been fishing in the river for nearly forty years from when he was just four. From that, he thought that he had caught everything there was to catch. Ashbar was dead wrong.
He could tell a storm was brewing up, but he did not let that stop him from fishing. Fishing was his passion, and it took more than a storm for him to stop.
“Just one more fish and I’ll head home.” He said to himself jerking the rod.
He felt a nibble. Judging from the nibble, he predicted that the fish was around a meter long. A pretty big fish, so he got his fishing face on with his eyebrows slanted and eyes fixed in the water. The fish took another nibble and with his trained reflexes, he jerked it right when the fish was chewing the bait. The result was a big fish, around sixty pounds; he estimated pulling his line hard. Ashbar could barely hold on to the rod and get his net.
At this time, the skies were already pitch black covered with storm clouds. Using all his strength, Ashbar held onto the line while scooping up the fish with his net.
Cold rain drops starting falling down refreshing his tired body. Exasperated from the fish fighting, he examined his catch.
“Lil’ bugger thought you could get away with your strong fins eh? What do we have here; I’ve never seen one of your type before. You mutated?” Ashbar said examining the fish.
Lightning crackled and Ashbar knew he had to get home quick. In a matter of seconds the drizzling rain turned to an all out storm. Ashbar could barely paddle against the strong current. Another crack of lightning struck a tree near him. Drenched from head to toe, he finally gathered the strength to paddle home.
After changing his soaking wet clothes, he examined his peculiar catch. Never had he seen such a fish. The next day he contacted local scientists. They said he had caught a fish thought to be extinct millions of years ago. Ashbar was paid tons of money for them to study the fish. From that day on, he never went home when a storm was brewing and always fished in that location.
