Tips on Writing a Good Blog Article

Every blog is like a child. You have to care for it, work for it, sacrifice for it, but in the end you will see it grow and prosper. However, if you take the articles out of a blog, it’s like taking the heart out of a child. There is no way for a blog to survive without well-written articles. With that said, here are some tips on writing good articles for your blog.
Have an Attention Grabber- Nowadays, everyone is busy with their lives and have short attentions spans. The first few sentences of your article are more important than the rest of the article combined. It is with these sentences that your reader determines if he/she actually wants to read it. If you fail to grab their attention, they will not stay for long. Attention grabbers can be anything from a question or just a sentence leaving readers confused. It doesn’t matter what they are as long as they leave the reader wanting more.
Conclude- Many novice writers just end there articles too abruptly. You need to guide your readers to a nice and steady stop. It’s sort of like driving, you can’t break abruptly or else it will make you uncomfortable. The same thing applies to your readers. A bad ending will leave your readers unsatisfied and not happy. Phrases that can help with this process of ending include: All in all, in conclusion, in the end, finally, ect… However, the most advanced writers skipped those phrases and ties their conclusion with the introduction.
Be Succinct- Blog articles are not meant for long descriptions and lots of adjectives with adverbs. For example: Today, I helped my mom clean those dirty clothes in the laundry that have been sitting around for decades. This long sentence can be just shortened around to: Today, I helped my mom clean dirty clothes. There are some types of genres that would accept these long sentences like story writing. However, blog articles are not meant to be like that.
Have Interesting Content- No matter how well written your article is, if your content is not appealing, it’s junk. Readers want to be entertained and get something out of your article. To grade if content is interesting or not there are some basic categories to follow: Proximity, Timeliness, and Novelty. Proximity is who is affected by the story. If your reader is not affected, most likely they will not be interested. This is where knowing your readers are important. Timeliness is how long ago this article happened. If it’s just a couple days before, it’s not considered interesting anymore. Novelty is how often this event happens. You should strive for once in a lifetime events so the readers would be interested.
Make Paragraphs- If your article is just one huge paragraph, it’s going to intimidate the reader. However, if you break it down to digestible paragraphs, your reader will be less intimidated by your article. It’s like eating a huge sandwich; if you take it all in one down, it’s not going to be pretty. However, if you separate the sandwich into pieces, it will be easier.
Add in Some Voice- Adding voice to your article is like teaching a baby to talk. It’s the hardest part of writing a good blog article. Voice is hard to explain, but basically you should be able to have your readers get to know you from reading your article. Every writer’s voice is unique, so there’s no right or wrong. Some ways to voice are: Add in your opinion, stick to a writing style, and put your heart into your writing.
Now that you’ve read these tips, you are now ready to write some great articles! Keep in mind that the best way to get better at writing, like everything else, is to practice. Like taking a child to school, if you keep these tips in mind your blog will grow like never before.
I would say one thing you forgot to include is editing. Editing superfluous words.
People want to read tightly written information. Get to the point quickly.
Make their time worth while. If someone is going to spend 2 minutes or 5 minutes…make sure the words are necessary.
As bloggers we are our own editors and our own publishers.
Well I wrote Be Succinct but editing can be another category
