Looking at one of his pictures of his family, Frank knew he may never see them again. His general just instructed that his infantry will be doing a full scale invasion in Baghdad. Frank knew that being in the Army was going to be tough, but not this tough. Everyday, one of his friends die, and sometimes the day after he makes a new friend, they’re dead. It’s tough mentally burying one after another. All he can do is hope that he’s not next.
Touching the picture one last time, he made his way to the transport helicopter.
“Men, we’re about to start our full scale invasion. The numbers are on our side, but these terrorists are well trained in combat. BUT SO ARE YOU! Now, I want you to go down there and show what America is all about!” The general rallied his troops.
“SIR YES SIR!” In unison, the whole infantry said together.
Over the past few months, the infantry really bonded together. Everybody knew each other and cared for each other. They were really close like one big family.
“Now, here’s the plan. All of you will be parachuting down penetrating the enemy’s base. Some of them will see you and fire back while you’re in the air. Just remain calm as you came here to serve your country. The ones that survive will start pushing. Reinforcement tanks will come from the other side advancing from there. FIGHT HARD AND DIE IN HONOR! THE TIME HAS ARRIVED!
Everybody started parachuting down. Frank was always scared of heights, but the Army can have no fear. He briskly jumped out and parachuted down. So far, there was no sight of insurgents. Gun in hand; Frank peeled his eyes for any movement. Suddenly, gunfire started raining onto them. He saw several machine guns pointing at them. Bullets whizzed pass, as the whole infantry started firing down onto them. Several of the infantrymen didn’t make the trip. They dropped to the ground slowly like a feather.
Frank was one of the few lucky ones. He landed without being touched. Crouching he didn’t even have to scan for insurgents. The whole field was infested with them. He found a boulder to hide behind and shoot from. Using his machine gun, he fired round after round onto the field of insurgents. They were simply too many of them.
“WE’RE OUTNUMBERED! GRENADES NOW! The general commanded.
Taking a grenade out of his pouch, he through it in the sea of insurgents. Explosion after explosion, their numbers were starting to decline. However, bullets kept on whizzing by Frank as he hid behind the rock. He thought to himself what the hell he was doing here. There was no time to question his choices as the insurgents were pushing on them.
“REINFORCEMENTS HAVE ARRIVED ON THE OTHER SIDE. VICTORY IS EMMINENT.”
Frank looked across the battlefield as tanks mowed down the insurgents with their fire power. The insurgents were starting to retreat.
“KILL EVERYONE! NO PRISONERS!”
With that command, everybody opened fire onto the retreating insurgents. Few survived.
“Good job everyone! We have complete stage one of the invasion successfully. Sadly, 36 cannot celebrate our victory with us. I will make this clear. This is only the beginning. The insurgents are now regrouping to get their bio-chemical warfare ready. We will start an aerial and ground attack tomorrow!”
